The Italian composer Ennio Morricone (1928) will show on May 27 at 20:30 pm, at the “Auditorio Nacional” in Mexico City. interpreting his film scores with the Rome Symphony Orchestra.

Morricone, awarded the Honorary Oscar last year for his distinguished career, is perhaps the best composer who has managed to incorporate orchestral music to the movies. He has worked with great directors like Pasolini, Tornatore, Bertolucci, Palma, Almodovar….

Morricone’s music, far from being a mere accompaniment, a prelude or reinforcement of the images, has offered us a beautiful synthesis of the general tone of the films that has musicalized, themes which can reflect the fabric and style of the films. Who does not remember the moving music of Cinema Paradiso and Malena? How many times has the theme of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly been covered? Or the urban music of The untouchables? Definitely this concert is a great opportunity to relive those great coruscations in music and images that have walked hand by hand.

Los integrantes  limaran sus asperezas por un día para presentarse en un concierto de beneficencia en Londres, el próximo 2 de julio. Los fanáticos del grupo estarán encantados de saber que Roger Waters, quien abandonó el grupo a principios de los ochenta, luego de la grabación de The Final Cut, también estará en el concierto.

De esa manera, los afortunados que obtengan una boleta para el concierto en Hyde Park podrán ver la formación clásica de la banda: Roger Waters en el bajo y voz, Dave Gilmour en la guitarra y voz, Nick Mason en la batería y Rick Wright en los teclados.El concierto, organizado por Bob Geldof (quien también estuvo tras el concierto Band Aid en 1985), busca llamar la atención sobre la pobreza en África.

En total serán cinco conciertos en diferentes partes del mundo -Edimburgo, Paris, Roma, Filadelfia y Londres- previos a la reunión de los líderes del G8 en Escocia. Además de Pink Floyd, en la capital inglesa se presentarán REM, U2, Paul McCartney, Madonna, Elton John y Coldplay.

Y serán verdaderamente afortunados quienes obtengan alguno de los 75 mil tiquetes del concierto londinense, porque éstos serán rifados entre los dos millones de personas que se inscribieron a través de mensajes de texto de teléfonos móviles.

Legendaria

Pink Floyd fue formado en 1965 por cuatro estudiantes de Cambridge: Syd Barret, Roger Waters, Rick Wright y Nick Mason. Barret dejó la banda en 1968 por problemas personales y fue reemplazado en la guitarra por Dave Gilmour.

A principios de los 70 la banda abandonó su estilo sicodélico y se inclinó por un sonido más sinfónico, con gran énfasis en lo electrónico. Su álbum de 1972, The Dark Side of the Moon, los disparó al estrellato. Luego vendrían álbumes como Wish You Where Here, Animals y The Wall, donde la visión oscura y anti-establishement de Roger Waters dominó la banda.

La crisis vendría a principios de los 80, con el enfrentamiento entre miembros de la banda, en especial entre Waters y Gilmour. Waters dejó el grupo en 1983. Su último concierto con Pink Floyd fue en 1981, en Londres, durante la gira The Wall.

Gilmour y compañía continuaron con la enseña de Pink Floyd, pese a los esfuerzos de Waters -que incluso los demandó- para que no utilizaran el legendario nombre. El último álbum que Gilmour, Wright y Mason grabaron bajo el nombre de Pink Floyd fue Division Bell, lanzado en 1994.

Pasado

Ahora, Waters y Gilmour parecen dispuestos a olvidar sus rencillas, al menos por un día. “Como la mayoría de las personas, quiero hacer todo lo posible para persuadir a los líderes del G8 para que hagan un esfuerzo mucho mayor por combatir la pobreza y aumentar la ayuda para el tercer mundo”, dijo David Gilmour.

“Cualquier rencilla que Roger y la banda tuvieran en el pasado lucen muy pequeñas en este contexto. Y si reunirnos para este concierto ayuda a que se llame la atención sobre esos graves problemas, creo que vale la pena”, agregó el guitarrista.

No se informó si la banda tiene planes por fuera de ese singular concierto. Por lo menos, los 75 mil afortunados que consigan boleta para el 2 de julio, podrán corear a grito herido “we don’t need no education…“.
